Police Detain Newfield Woman in Factory Road Wallet Case
Police have detained a Newfield woman in connection with the alleged theft of a wallet outside a supermarket on Factory Road.
The investigation began after a man from Green Bay reported losing his brown leather wallet while shopping at Chase Supermarket on January 3. He later realized the wallet was missing.
The wallet contained several forms of identification and bank cards, along with EC$1,700 and US$2. The complainant explained that the wallet had slipped from his pocket when he returned to his vehicle.
Initially, he left the area, but when he returned later the same day, the wallet had been taken. This prompted him to report the incident to police.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the supermarket to identify possible suspects. In addition, multiple interviews were conducted to gather further information.
Based on the footage and interviews, police arrested a woman on suspicion of larceny. They transported her to the St. John’s Police Station for questioning.
The authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Meanwhile, the woman remains in custody as police continue to gather evidence.
