PM Pushes Brain Gain, Urges Diaspora to Return

PM

PM Gaston Browne is urging nationals abroad to come home. He said changing global conditions create new opportunity. Therefore, Antigua and Barbuda can now reclaim talent.

Speaking on The Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM, Browne shared his view. He said uncertainty overseas should inspire reflection. Instead of fear, he urged optimism.

Moreover, Browne referenced commentary by Nevis Premier Mark Brantley. He agreed that migration patterns may now shift. As a result, Caribbean nations can benefit.

Accordingly, Browne called this moment a “brain gain.” He said talent can now stay home. Likewise, nationals abroad can return to build the country.

“There is an opportunity now,” Browne said. He urged skilled citizens to invest locally. In turn, this could accelerate development.

Importantly, Browne said the country stands stronger today. Economic performance has improved steadily. Therefore, prospects look better than before.

In addition, he highlighted expanded education options. Years ago, students had few local choices. Most had to travel abroad.

Today, that reality has changed. University education is now available in Antigua. As a result, students can train at home.

Similarly, Browne pointed to healthcare advances. Many treatments once required overseas travel. Now, several procedures are done locally.

Consequently, families save money and time. This progress also improves quality of life. Browne said these gains matter.

Furthermore, he spoke about global technology shifts. E-commerce and remote work have grown rapidly. Therefore, physical migration is less necessary.

People no longer need to leave to access opportunity. Goods, services, and income now cross borders digitally. This change favors small states.

At the same time, Browne urged citizens to value home. He praised the country’s natural beauty. He also cited rising living standards.

“If you have a few dollars here,” Browne said, “life is second to none.” He stressed comfort and community.

Meanwhile, Browne warned about losing skilled people. Brain drain, he said, slows progress. Therefore, retention remains critical.

In conclusion, Browne urged unity and vision. He said disappointment can bring blessing. If embraced, this moment can strengthen the nation.

Ultimately, he called for action. Come home, he urged. Help build a stronger Antigua and Barbuda.
