Old Road Man Charged After Discovery of 377 Cannabis Plants
Old Road man has been charged after police allegedly discovered 377 cannabis plants in Crabbe Hill. As a result, authorities filed three cannabis-related charges against him.
The accused, Shawn Richards, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Tuesday. During the hearing, attorney Damien Benjamin represented him in court.
According to the charges, Richards faces counts of cultivating, possessing, and supplying cannabis. In total, the plants carry an estimated street value of $232,000.
The case stems from an incident on March 21 in the Crabbe Hill area. Following that, police linked Richards to the alleged discovery.
After his appearance, the court granted Richards bail. However, the bail was set at $250,000 with strict conditions.
Specifically, he must pay a $10,000 cash component. In addition, he must provide two Antiguan sureties.
Furthermore, the court imposed several conditions on his release. Richards must report daily to Johnson’s Point Police Station. He must report between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Additionally, he must continue living in Old Road until the matter concludes. At the same time, the court ordered him not to contact or interfere with witnesses.
Moreover, authorities placed a travel ban on him. Therefore, he cannot leave the jurisdiction while the case continues.
The court has adjourned the matter to May 27. On that date, proceedings will move to committal.
Meanwhile, the charges remain before the court as the legal process continues. Consequently, Richards must comply with all bail conditions until the next hearing.
In summary, the case involves serious allegations tied to a large quantity of cannabis plants. However, the court will determine the outcome in the coming months.
