Octavia Nicholas Launches Spoken Word Series on Emotional Abuse

Octavia

Octavia Nicholas has launched an eight-part spoken word series to raise awareness of emotional abuse.

Moreover, the project is created in collaboration with the Gender Affairs Division. Consequently, it highlights psychological abuse, often overlooked in domestic violence discussions.

Inspired by her book Surviving a Narcissist, the series also forms part of activities marking International Women’s Day on March 8. Therefore, it connects personal storytelling with wider awareness campaigns.

From March 1, Ms. Nicholas will release one performance daily on social media. Additionally, she encourages the public to follow and share each piece to amplify the message.

The series combines spoken word poetry and expressive dance. Together, these elements effectively explore hidden realities of domestic violence, especially non-physical abuse.

“This project is more than poetry — it is purpose,” Ms. Nicholas said. She added that abuse often begins with control and manipulation, rather than physical violence.

Furthermore, the collection reflects themes of survival, healing, and empowerment. Ms. Nicholas draws on her own experiences and stories shared in her book. Consequently, the project gives a voice to survivors and advocates.

The performances aim to educate viewers about the emotional impact of abuse. In addition, they highlight the importance of recognizing early warning signs and seeking support.

Ms. Nicholas and the Gender Affairs Division also urge the public to engage online. By watching and sharing the performances, audiences can help spread awareness and support victims.

Moreover, the initiative underscores the role of art in social change. Through poetry and dance, difficult topics are addressed in accessible and relatable ways.

Ultimately, the series hopes to spark conversations about emotional abuse. It also encourages reflection, healing, and action ahead of International Women’s Day.

By combining personal stories, art, and advocacy, Octavia Nicholas offers a powerful platform to spotlight often-hidden forms of domestic violence.

Finally, the daily releases ensure consistent engagement, allowing audiences to experience the performances gradually and reflect on their messages.

Thus, through this series, survivors and allies can find both education and inspiration, highlighting the importance of addressing emotional abuse in every community.
