OAS Launches First Inter-American Mental Health Week with Focus on Youth

oas

The Organization of American States (OAS) has launched its first-ever Inter-American Mental Health Week, placing a strong emphasis on youth well-being across the region. The initiative, which runs from October 7–11, 2025, aims to raise awareness and strengthen mental health systems within member states, including Antigua and Barbuda.

This year’s theme, “Empowering Minds, Building Resilience,” highlights the importance of addressing mental health challenges faced by young people, particularly in the wake of social and economic pressures heightened by global crises. Through regional workshops, school-based programs, and community outreach, the OAS hopes to encourage open conversations and provide practical tools for emotional resilience.

Antigua and Barbuda, like other Caribbean nations, continues to make strides in mental health advocacy, with growing efforts to integrate support services into schools and youth organizations. The OAS initiative is expected to enhance collaboration among health ministries, educators, and civil society across the Americas.
