Armed bandits in Nigeria have demanded motorbikes in exchange for the release of about 150 churchgoers who were kidnapped during a service in the north-western part of the country. The attack took place when gunmen stormed a church, firing shots and forcing worshippers into nearby forests.

Local officials say negotiations are ongoing, but authorities have warned against meeting the demands, noting that ransom payments often fuel further criminal activity. Families of the abducted worshippers are said to be deeply distressed, as many of those taken include women and children.

Kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common in parts of northern Nigeria, where bandit groups exploit weak security and difficult terrain. Churches, schools, and rural communities have frequently been targeted.
