Nigel Christian Murder Trial to Open Thursday

Nigel

Nigel Christian murder trial is set to begin Thursday in the High Court before Justice Rajiv Persaud.

Three men accused of killing the Customs officer are expected to stand trial on February 19. The accused are Lasean Bully of Cashew Hill, Wayne Thomas of Hatton, and Saleim Harrigan of Greenbay.

All three men have pleaded not guilty to the 2020 murder. They continue to maintain their innocence.

Christian, 44, was abducted from his McKinnons home on July 10, 2020. Later, authorities found his body in the Thibou’s area. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Police charged the men in April 2021, nearly a year after the killing. Subsequently, the matter moved through the court system.

The case first went before the All Saints Magistrate’s Court. Afterward, it progressed to the High Court. It was originally listed for the January 2023 assizes. However, the matter was delayed.

In January 2024, the court arraigned the three men before Justice Ann-Marie Smith. At that time, they again pleaded not guilty.

The trial was initially scheduled to begin on Wednesday. However, the court postponed the start date to Thursday.

Justice Rajiv Persaud will now preside over the proceedings. Therefore, the long-awaited trial is expected to move forward this week.

The case stems from the July 2020 abduction and killing of Christian. Since then, the matter has gone through several stages in the legal system.

As the trial opens, the court will hear evidence related to the charges. Meanwhile, the accused men remain before the High Court to answer to the allegations.

The start of the trial marks another step in a case that has spanned several years. Proceedings are expected to begin Thursday as scheduled.
