Netflix Ends Support for PlayStation 3 Today

Netflix

Netflix will quietly vanish from millions of older devices today. The streaming giant has ended support for the PlayStation 3. As a result, users can no longer watch on the aging console.

Specifically, the service stops working on Sony’s PlayStation 3 from March 2, 2026. Users should have received a device notification. The message states that Netflix is no longer available after that date.

The notice also directs users to check compatible devices online. Therefore, affected customers must switch to newer hardware.

The PlayStation 3 launched in November 2006. Over its lifetime, more than 87 million units were sold. For many, it served as both a gaming and streaming hub.

However, the news has sparked frustration online. On X, one user called it the “end of an era.” Others shared similar reactions. Some said the console carried streaming before it became mainstream.

Meanwhile, Reddit users voiced disappointment. One person said the PS3 helped share Netflix across countries. Another praised the device for having no ads and no location service limits.

Even so, some admitted surprise that support lasted this long. After all, the console is nearly 20 years old.

In addition, older smart TVs will also lose Netflix support. Reports indicate that models over 10 years old are affected. Certain set-top boxes, including BT TV Box Z4 and BT TV Recordable Box G4, will also lose access.

Consequently, some households must now upgrade devices. Still, Netflix offers alternatives. Users can stream on supported smart TVs, phones, and tablets.

They can also watch through streaming players and newer game consoles. Moreover, viewers may access Netflix on a computer through a web browser.

Although the change disappoints loyal PS3 users, options remain available. Technology continues to evolve, and platforms update over time.

For long-time fans, however, the shutdown marks a nostalgic moment. The PlayStation 3 once defined home entertainment for millions. Now, its Netflix chapter has officially closed.
