Government has appointed Dr. Dave Ray as a dedicated Diaspora Officer, aiming to strengthen connections with overseas nationals. Moreover, Foreign Affairs Minister EP Chet Greene said the move reflects a renewed commitment to Antiguans and Barbudans abroad.

During his 2026 Budget presentation in Parliament, Greene highlighted the importance of building stronger, structured relationships beyond traditional consular services. Furthermore, he noted that the appointment focuses on diaspora members in New York and other major international hubs.

In addition, Greene announced plans for a Diaspora Business Forum to be held in St. John’s in 2026. The timing is expected to align with the Carnival season. This scheduling, he said, will allow diaspora members to participate without making multiple trips home.

While remittances remain valuable, he emphasized that the government wants deeper economic engagement from overseas nationals. “We can’t just be talking about remittances,” Greene told Parliament, adding that the initiative aims to convert overseas connections into long-term partnerships. Furthermore, the forum will be open to the global Antigua and Barbuda diaspora.
