Fire Erupts on Antigua-Registered Ship in Spain
A fire started on the general cargo vessel Sloman Dispatcher while it was docked in Cartagena, Spain, on October 18. It began around 12:50 p.m. on tarps covering engines in the cargo hold. It quickly spread in two nearby sections of the hold.
Firefighters from the Cartagena City Council, along with port police and the Civil Guard, responded fast. The crew had already tried to fight the blaze with hoses. The firefighting team managed to put out the blaze by 3 p.m. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and no pollution was reported. It likely started during oxyacetylene cutting work.
The Sloman Dispatcher is a large cargo ship registered in Antigua & Barbuda. It was built in 2012 and measures 138 meters long. The quick response helped avoid a bigger disaster at the port.
