FIDE Development Director Visits Antigua and Barbuda to Boost Chess Growth

The International Chess Federation’s (FIDE) Director for Chess Development, Grandmaster (GM) Victor Bologan, visited Antigua and Barbuda as part of a regional tour aimed at strengthening chess in the Caribbean.
During his visit, GM Bologan met with officials, coaches, and young players to explore ways to expand the sport locally. Discussions focused on increasing access to training, building stronger school chess programs, and fostering international connections to give Antiguan players more opportunities to compete at higher levels.
The visit is part of FIDE’s wider initiative to support developing chess nations by providing resources, coaching expertise, and pathways for youth development. Antigua and Barbuda’s chess community welcomed the visit as a milestone moment, seeing it as a chance to elevate the sport’s visibility and inspire the next generation of players.
