Passenger Ferry Horizon 9 Collides with Tanker in Singapore

Passenger ferry Horizon 9 docking after minor collision near Singapore Southern Islands

Passenger ferry Horizon 9 collided with the Marshall Islands-registered tanker La Digue near Singapore’s Southern Islands on 10 November 2025. The ferry was en route to HarbourFront Centre when the collision occurred around 5 pm. Immediately, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) responded. They sent a patrol craft to escort Horizon 9 safely back to the Regional Ferry Terminal. All 165 passengers and 7 crew members were safely disembarked. No injuries were reported. The ferry sustained minor damage to its bow above the waterline but remained fully operational. Meanwhile, La Digue reported no damage. There were no reports of pollution, disruption to port operations, or navigational traffic delays.

Following the incident, the MPA launched an investigation to determine its cause and prevent future incidents. Both vessels are cooperating fully. Passenger and crew safety remains the top priority. Experts also note that the collision highlights the importance of strict safety protocols, constant monitoring, and crew training in Singapore’s busy waterways. The response was swift. In addition, passengers praised the crew’s efficiency and professionalism during the emergency.

Moving forward, Singapore’s maritime authorities encourage ferry operators to review safety procedures. Officials also advise passengers to follow safety instructions during emergencies. Furthermore, previous incidents in the region reinforce the need for continuous monitoring and emergency preparedness. These measures protect passengers and vessels operating near the Southern Islands. As a result, the Horizon 9 incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance in maritime operations.
