At least 18 people have died across the United States as Winter Storm Fern brought severe weather to several regions. Heavy snow, ice, and strong winds disrupted travel and caused widespread power outages.

Authorities said many of the deaths were linked to road accidents, exposure to extreme cold, and weather-related emergencies. Several states declared emergency measures as conditions worsened, with flights cancelled and major highways closed.

Utility crews worked to restore electricity after ice and snow damaged power lines. Millions of residents were urged to stay indoors as temperatures dropped sharply and dangerous wind chills set in.

Weather officials warned that Winter Storm Fern could continue to impact parts of the country, urging the public to follow safety advisories and avoid unnecessary travel.
