CXC Says May-June Exams Not Fully Digital

CXC

CXC has confirmed that May-June exams will not be fully electronic. This brings clarity for students across the Caribbean.

The Caribbean Examinations Council shared the update ahead of the major exam period. Officials addressed concerns about digital testing.

According to Dr Nicole Manning, only select subjects will be electronic. These include animation, game design, and digital media.

Therefore, most traditional subjects will remain paper-based. Students can expect a familiar exam format. This reduces uncertainty for many candidates.

Earlier this year, CXC introduced a historic January exam session. It combined both digital and paper formats. Notably, over 10,000 students participated.

Moreover, the January exams covered 13 subjects across 17 territories. This marked the region’s first fully electronic and hybrid sitting.

However, officials stressed that January was a testing phase. It aimed to refine systems before wider use. As a result, full digital rollout was never planned yet.

In addition, some territories already used electronic multiple-choice exams. These earlier efforts showed strong results. They helped guide the January rollout.

Importantly, CXC reviewed technical issues from that session. Dr Manning said problems were handled quickly. Real-time systems tracked and fixed disruptions.

Furthermore, affected students received extra time where needed. This ensured fairness during the exams. No student was penalized for technical delays.

Closer to home, Antigua and Barbuda saw steady participation. Student numbers matched previous years. This shows continued confidence in the system.

Looking ahead, the May-June exams remain on schedule. More than 100,000 students are expected to sit exams. This makes it the region’s largest assessment period.

At the same time, CXC continues to improve digital systems. Officials plan gradual expansion in the future. However, changes will happen in careful stages.

In conclusion, students will not face a sudden shift to full digital exams. Instead, a balanced approach will continue. This helps ensure reliability and fairness for all candidates.
