Cricket West Indies (CWI) Boosts Grassroots with Coach Training

CWI

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is strengthening grassroots cricket by running coaching courses across the region. The latest round started in Antigua & Barbuda and will travel to several islands, including Montserrat and St. Vincent. These courses aim to build a strong pool of qualified coaches who can train young players and grow the sport locally.

CWI’s Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, says coaching education is key to building a sustainable future for Caribbean cricket. By training coaches well, CWI hopes to create more opportunities for kids to play and develop their skills. The program also supports important youth initiatives like the Girls Under-16/19 Territorial Cricket Hubs.

To keep players safe, all coaches must complete child protection and safeguarding training before joining the program. Experienced coaches from Trinidad & Tobago lead the sessions, bringing years of expertise in youth cricket. After a successful first round with over 150 participants in other islands, this new phase shows CWI’s strong commitment to growing cricket from the ground up.
