Court Told of Alleged Payment Plot in Christian Killing

Court

Court heard testimony about an alleged payment to have Nigel Christian killed.

A prosecution witness spoke before the High Court. The witness said accused Saliem Harrigan mentioned a contract to kill Christian. According to the testimony, Harrigan allegedly said the contract came from Raymond Yhap.

Furthermore, the witness claimed the arrangement was facilitated through an inmate. That inmate, the court heard, was at His Majesty’s Prison. However, no further details were given about the prisoner.

In addition, the court heard that police allegedly knew of a plan to kill Christian. The witness said this was before the shooting on July 10, 2020. Therefore, the issue of prior knowledge became part of the testimony.

However, under questioning, the witness admitted he did not know certain facts. He said he was unaware whether Christian had been placed in protective custody. As a result, he could not confirm what steps, if any, were taken.

Meanwhile, three men are jointly charged with murder. They are Wayne Thomas, Harrigan, and Lasean Bully. All remain before the court as the trial continues.

The matter is being heard by Rajiv Persad. He continues to listen to witness evidence and legal arguments.

So far, the prosecution has presented statements allegedly made by Harrigan. At the same time, the defense has challenged parts of the account.

As the case proceeds, the court will weigh the credibility of the witness. The trial remains ongoing, and further testimony is expected.
