Court Reduces “Mongoose” Gun Sentence

Court

Court of Appeal has reduced the prison sentence of Oszie Kelvin Russell, also known as “Mongoose.” As a result, he will now serve one year and ten months.

Previously, Russell received a sentence of three and a half years. However, his attorneys challenged that ruling. Therefore, the court reviewed the case.

The appeal was led by attorneys Wendel Alexander and Andrew Okola. Consequently, the judges agreed to lower the penalty. This decision followed Russell’s earlier guilty plea.

Russell admitted to illegal firearm possession. Specifically, he had an unlicensed 9mm Glock pistol. In addition, he possessed ten rounds of ammunition.

Moreover, officers found a suppressor during the investigation. These charges stemmed from a police operation. The incident took place on April 22, 2025.

On that morning, officers went to Russell’s home in Lightfoot. They arrived at about 6:55 a.m. Shortly after, events unfolded quickly.

According to reports, Russell reacted when police arrived. He attempted to throw an item from his bedroom window. However, officers recovered the firearm.

After that, police conducted a search of the property. During the search, they discovered the suppressor. As a result, authorities secured key evidence.

Following the operation, officers took Russell into custody. He remained in detention as the case progressed. Meanwhile, legal proceedings moved forward.

Three days later, Russell was formally sentenced. This took place on April 25, 2025. At that time, the court imposed the original sentence.

However, the defense later filed an appeal. Consequently, the Court of Appeal reviewed the circumstances. This led to a reduced sentence.

Russell is a 40-year-old father of two. Therefore, the outcome affects both him and his family. Even so, the conviction remains in place.

In conclusion, the court’s decision significantly lowered the prison term. Meanwhile, the case highlights ongoing enforcement of firearm laws.
