Church Leaders Propose New Code of Conduct for Politicians

The Ecclesiastical Commission of Antigua and Barbuda—made up of representatives from the country’s major churches—has submitted a new Code of Conduct proposal to the Cabinet. It outlines expectations for politicians, including pledges to always speak the truth, use non‑defamatory language, uphold exemplary lifestyles, and prioritise national growth and economic development for all citizens and residents.

These guidelines are not meant as punitive rules, but as a moral “brake” to help elected officials conduct themselves with integrity and accountability. The Cabinet has agreed to review the proposal and invited the Commission back for additional discussions, including consultations with opposition members.
