Canadian Woman Remanded After 67lb Cannabis Seizure at Airport

Canadian

Canadian woman Roselynee Crisostomo has been remanded in custody after a major cannabis seizure at the airport.

Authorities stopped the 48-year-old shortly after she arrived in Antigua and Barbuda. She had travelled on an Air Canada flight from Toronto.

The incident happened on March 10 during a joint drug interdiction operation. Several law enforcement teams took part in the exercise.

First, officers from the Narcotics Department led the operation. In addition, members of the Special Services Unit joined the search. Meanwhile, the K-9 Unit and Customs Enforcement Unit also assisted.

During the operation, officers searched Crisostomo’s luggage. Soon after, they found suspicious packages inside two suitcases.

Investigators later counted 61 vacuum-sealed packages. Each package contained cannabis.

Altogether, the drugs weighed more than 67 pounds. Authorities estimate the street value at about EC$536,000.

As a result, officers arrested Crisostomo at the airport. Shortly after, investigators filed several serious charges.

Prosecutors charged her with drug trafficking and importation of cannabis. In addition, she faces charges for possession of cannabis.

Furthermore, authorities charged her with possession with intent to transfer. She also faces a charge for being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

Crisostomo later appeared before Ngaio Emanuel in court on Thursday.

During the hearing, prosecutors asked the court to deny bail. They argued that the accused could flee the country.

Specifically, they said she has no known ties to Antigua and Barbuda. Therefore, they claimed she posed a flight risk.

After hearing the arguments, the court agreed with prosecutors. Consequently, the magistrate denied bail.

The court then ordered that Crisostomo remain in custody.

Meanwhile, the case will return to court later this year. The next hearing is scheduled for May 13, 2026.

Authorities continue to warn travellers about strict drug laws in Antigua and Barbuda. They say drug trafficking carries serious penalties.

Moreover, officials stressed that joint enforcement operations will continue. These efforts aim to prevent illegal drugs from entering the country.

As a result, airport security teams remain on alert. They continue working together to detect and stop drug trafficking attempts.
