Browne: ABLP Has Eight New Election Candidates Ready

Browne

Browne says the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party has at least eight new candidates ready. Moreover, he calls it part of a clear succession plan.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne shared the update this week. He spoke on the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM.

During the program, Browne stressed long-term planning. “We believe in succession planning,” he said. In addition, he noted strong youth involvement.

Over the past three years, he said he helped guide new candidates. As a result, the party built leadership depth. Therefore, it now prepares early for the next general election.

“So I believe we have probably close to a minimum of eight new candidates,” Browne said. Furthermore, he confirmed that Randy Baltimore is one of them.

Importantly, Browne said the party did not scramble for replacements. For example, he addressed the transition in St. Philip’s North. That seat became open after the retirement of Sir Robin Yearwood.

However, Browne said the party was ready. “We didn’t have to hustle,” he stated. Instead, Randy Baltimore had already been chosen about two years ago.

According to Browne, Baltimore prepared quietly. Meanwhile, he continued serving the community. Browne described him as “well respected.”

In fact, Baltimore gave up more than 27 years as a senior customs officer. He even sacrificed his pension to enter politics. Consequently, Browne praised his commitment to public service.

“Randy’s life has been one of service,” Browne said. He also noted Baltimore worked closely with Yearwood for decades.

Additionally, Browne recalled advising Baltimore years ago. He told him not to challenge Yearwood too soon. “Don’t worry, your time will come,” he remembered saying.

Therefore, Browne framed the move as strategic. He argued the party has structured renewal in place. At the same time, he suggested the ABLP avoids last-minute decisions.

Overall, Browne presented the candidate rollout as deliberate. With at least eight new faces lined up, the party signals preparation. As the next election approaches, internal transition appears firmly underway.
