AUA Parts Ways With COO Vernon Solomon After Contract Dispute
AUA has confirmed a major leadership change.
The American University of Antigua College of Medicine announced that Vernon Solomon is no longer with the institution. He served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in Antigua. His departure took effect on February 18, 2026.
The announcement followed weeks of written correspondence. The matter centered on a contract issue tied to a faculty appointment.
On February 2, 2026, the Managing Director of ConsultHIM wrote to Mr. Solomon. The letter raised a formal objection on behalf of a faculty member. According to the letter, the faculty member accepted a one-year fixed-term offer. The individual then relocated to Antigua based on that offer and stated benefits.
However, the letter claimed that after arrival, the faculty member received a different agreement. ConsultHIM stated that the new contract included terms that were far less favorable.
Specifically, the agreement reflected a shortened term from January to April. In addition, it included a 90-day probation period. The probation allowed termination with 24 hours’ notice.
ConsultHIM argued that the agreement was voidable. The letter claimed the faculty member signed under “undue economic influence and/or duress.” Therefore, the firm requested written confirmation by February 6, 2026. It asked AUA to issue a revised agreement reflecting the earlier offer.
However, no written response arrived by that deadline. As a result, ConsultHIM sent a second letter on February 16, 2026. This time, the letter was copied to AUA officials in the United States. The letter invited a response by February 19.
Mr. Solomon responded on February 18, 2026. He acknowledged receipt of the concerns. He explained that the contract term ending in April aligned with the academic semester. However, he maintained the appointment remained a one-year term. He said it matched the original offer letter.
Moreover, he rejected claims of undue economic influence. He stated that salary and benefits remained consistent with the initial offer. He added that AUA was prepared to provide written confirmation. That confirmation would renew the appointment for the next semester to complete the one-year term.
Subsequently, faculty received notice of leadership and reporting changes. The announcement included promotions of several senior executives. At the same time, AUA confirmed that Mr. Solomon was no longer associated with the institution, effective immediately.
