Antiguan

Antiguan Baden Prince Jr, a UK-based poet and storyteller, received prestigious literary recognition for his decades of work.

Prince, a graduate of the University of East Anglia, holds an honours BA in English and American Studies. He has over 30 years of experience performing and writing across the UK.

Recently, event organizers invited him to headline the Bardic Trials in Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire. He performed a thirty-minute storytelling session that captivated the audience.

Organizers praised his performance, saying his tales enthralled listeners and perfectly closed a jam-packed evening of entertainment.

Additionally, the Chair of the Bardic Council described Prince as “a shining example of the Bardic Arts.” She also congratulated him personally for his time, talent, and storytelling skill.

The Bardic Trials, now in their 15th year, challenge poets, storytellers, dramatists, and singer-songwriters through three competitive rounds. Judges and audiences evaluate performances for the civic title of Bard of Stony Stratford.

Winners serve one year, creating at least eight original pieces celebrating the town’s customs and achievements. They perform these works at official events throughout their term.

This year, spoken word artist Abracadazra won the title. Nevertheless, Prince’s headlining performance highlighted his decades of skill and audience appeal.

Prince has published the poetry chapbook The Shadow Dancer, the short story The Bag Man, and poems in the anthology 100 Years Unheard. He also contributed to UK literary magazines Rising and X-Bout.

Furthermore, he published Caribbean folk tales, Brer Rabbit and the Breadfruit Tree and Anansi and Tiger, through SuperGreat Kids Stories with Bloomsbury Press.

Prince attended Antigua Grammar School before studying in Norwich, England. He earned GCE “O” and “A” Levels and a BA Hons in English and American Studies.

Overall, Prince’s recognition celebrates his lifelong contributions. Through his storytelling, he continues to inspire audiences in the UK and the Caribbean.
