Antigua Rebuts Claims, Affirms Strong U.S. Partnership

Antigua

Antigua has firmly rejected recent claims questioning its relationship with the United States. Antigua described the statements as misleading, inaccurate, and damaging to public trust. Moreover, officials said the commentary presents speculation as fact. As a result, it creates confusion and misrepresents national policy.

First, the Government dismissed assertions that ties with Washington are under strain. Instead, it confirmed ongoing engagement at senior diplomatic and technical levels. Additionally, officials stressed that communication remains open and respectful. Therefore, claims of isolation or punishment have no factual support.

Meanwhile, the Government addressed concerns about changes to U.S. visa procedures. According to officials, these adjustments reflect broader global U.S. policy shifts. Consequently, they are not directed at Antigua and Barbuda. Any suggestion of targeted action, officials said, is simply incorrect.

Next, attention turned to the West Indies Oil Company. The Government rejected claims that WIOC faces U.S. pressure over its ownership. Furthermore, officials noted that the company’s shareholding structure has been transparent for years. Likewise, WIOC continues to operate within all international legal requirements.

Importantly, the Government confirmed that no U.S. request has been made to seize or transfer shares. In fact, there has been no communication of that nature at all. Additionally, WIOC has conducted business with U.S. entities without restriction for more than seven years.

Turning to the Citizenship by Investment Programme, officials dismissed allegations of security abuse. They described the claims as speculative and irresponsible. However, the Government highlighted its strict due-diligence framework. This includes layered background checks and international security vetting.

In addition, Antigua works closely with trusted global partners to review procedures. As a result, officials said there is no evidence of security risks tied to the programme. Claims to the contrary, they added, lack proof and context.

Finally, the Government warned against narratives driven by personal bias. It said several statements rely on false or invented information. Therefore, the public should approach such commentary with caution. Especially when routine governance is framed as crisis.

In conclusion, Antigua reaffirmed its commitment to responsible governance and international law. It remains engaged and cooperative with the United States and others. Ultimately, officials said claims of pressure or non-compliance are misleading. Accordingly, the Government will continue correcting misinformation wherever it appears.
