Antigua Joins CARICOM-Colombia Trade Talks

Antigua & Barbuda took part in recent CARICOM trade talks with Colombia, held in Bogotá on September 9–10, 2025. The negotiations aimed to update the CARICOM-Colombia Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement, which has been in place for over 30 years.
The focus was on expanding market access for agricultural and industrial products, improving trade procedures, and promoting regional supply chains. Officials also worked on including Haiti and Suriname in the agreement. A third round of talks is scheduled for November.
For Antigua & Barbuda, the updated deal could mean better opportunities for local farmers, exporters, and service providers. Access to new markets in South America may help diversify the economy and reduce reliance on traditional sectors.
CARICOM leaders say the talks reflect a push to strengthen South-South cooperation and adapt to global trade changes. Antigua’s role in these negotiations shows its commitment to regional development and stronger international partnerships.
