Antigua Clinicians Join HIV Training in Miami

Antigua & Barbuda will be represented at a major HIV prevention and treatment training hosted by the Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) from September 17–19, 2025, in Miami. PAHO, The Global Fund, and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine support the programme.
The training will bring together doctors, nurses, and community health specialists from across the Caribbean. Antigua’s participation means local healthcare providers will gain advanced skills in motivational interviewing and new strategies to engage people living with HIV. These methods have already proven successful in getting high-risk populations into prevention programmes and back into care.
Organisers say the training is not just about skills, but about building long-term capacity. The “train-the-trainer” approach will allow Antigua’s health workers to return home and pass on their knowledge to colleagues, strengthening the entire health system.
The programme comes at a critical time as the region pushes toward UNAIDS’ 95-95-95 targets for 2030. For Antigua, this training is expected to improve HIV care, reduce new infections, and support the national fight against AIDS.
