Antigua & Barbuda Names 14-Member Team for CARIFTA Aquatics
Antigua and Barbuda has named a 14-member swim team for the CARIFTA Aquatics Championships. The event will take place in Fort de France, Martinique, from April 3 to 8.
The Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation announced the squad. The team includes many of the country’s top young swimmers.
Notably, former Junior Sportswoman of the Year Ellie Shaw leads the group. She is joined by Madison MacMillan, Anya De Gannes, and Alessandro Bazzoni. Meanwhile, head coach Wayne Mitchell will guide the team.
The squad shows strong depth across all age groups. In the Girls 11-12 division, Kaylee Warner and Alyssa Watkins will compete. At the same time, Christopher Walter will represent the country in the Boys 11-12 category.
In the 13-14 division, Anya De Gannes and Keziah Joseph will compete for the girls. Meanwhile, Alessandro Bazzoni will join Jamie Tranter and N’yriq Weste in the boys’ events.
The 15-17 category features a strong lineup. Ellie Shaw will compete alongside Madison MacMillan and Selah Wiltshire in the girls’ division. In addition, Reuben Edwards, Jai Sindhi, and Espriit Shaw will represent the boys.
Furthermore, Nelson Molina Fojo will assist as coach. Lisa Isaac-MacMillan will serve as team manager. Ayedele Warner and Daniela Casmiro will act as chaperones. Absatou “Afi” Williams will serve as the technical official.
The CARIFTA Aquatics Championships remains a key regional event. Since 1985, it has showcased young swimming talent across the Caribbean.
This year, the competition will be strong. Teams from 22 countries are expected to compete. These include The Bahamas, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Therefore, Antigua and Barbuda’s swimmers will face tough regional rivals. However, the team aims to perform well and represent the country proudly.
