Antigua and Barbuda to Build Agro-Industrial Park

Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda plans to establish an agro-industrial park to strengthen food security and expand local agricultural production. Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said two sites—Old Road and Christian Valley—are being considered. The park will include agro-processing facilities, a feed mill, and model homes built with sustainable materials. The government aims to improve local farming, reduce reliance on imported animal feed, and encourage value-added processing in the agricultural sector.

Merchant explained that the park will serve as a hub for modern farming practices and food production. It will provide infrastructure and technical support to local farmers. Officials anticipate the feed mill and processing facilities will allow farmers to produce higher-value products locally. This approach will help lower costs, improve food availability, and strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s agricultural economy.

The project also focuses on sustainability and rural development. Eco-friendly infrastructure and model homes will demonstrate best practices in construction and resource use. Officials say the park aligns with ongoing efforts to improve national food security while supporting economic growth in rural communities. The government expects the agro-industrial park to make the agriculture sector stronger, self-reliant, and more resilient to global market changes.
