Antigua and Barbuda Government Reimburses Over $1M in CXC Exam Fees
Antigua and Barbuda’s Ministry of Education is reimbursing more than one million dollars to parents and guardians. These funds cover Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exam fees paid for May and June 2026.
Director of Education Clare Browne said schools have already received the money. Consequently, they are now returning it to parents. She added, “Some people travelled… and now everybody is back. School is about to start again, so those parents who have not received a refund can look forward to getting it.”
The reimbursement fulfils a government promise made by Prime Minister Gaston Browne. He announced in the December budget that the state will cover exam fees going forward.
Officials explained that this initiative is part of wider measures to ease inflationary pressures on families. They stressed that students will not be barred from sitting exams due to financial constraints.
Furthermore, the reimbursement process has already begun in schools across the country. Parents who paid early can now expect refunds shortly. Clare Browne emphasized that the effort is designed to ensure smooth transitions back to school.
Additionally, the government noted that the policy reflects a commitment to supporting education while addressing family expenses. The funds will be distributed efficiently to make sure no eligible family misses out.
The Ministry of Education highlighted that all schools have received their allocated reimbursement amounts. As a result, schools are now coordinating with parents to return the funds as quickly as possible.
This move has been welcomed by parents who had previously paid for CXC exams. It ensures students can focus on preparing for exams without financial worry.
Moreover, the initiative underlines the government’s commitment to education access. By covering exam fees, families face one less financial burden during the school year.
Overall, the reimbursement program represents a practical step in easing costs for families while promoting student success. The government continues to ensure that educational opportunities remain accessible to all students.
Parents who have not yet received refunds are encouraged to check with their schools. Meanwhile, schools are expected to complete the refund process before the new term begins.
This initiative marks a continuation of efforts to support both students and families in Antigua and Barbuda.
