All Saints post office moves during renovations

All

All Saints postal operations have moved to a temporary location. The shift supports planned renovations at the original facility.

According to Algernon Gomes, the move happened over the weekend. He confirmed the change to Observer Media.

Now, services operate from the Liberta Community Center. Specifically, the post office uses the ground floor. As a result, renovation work can begin at All Saints.

Meanwhile, contractors have not set a completion date. However, Gomes said the work may take about three months. He also noted the temporary space feels comfortable. In addition, staff have already settled in. Therefore, services continue without disruption.

Despite this progress, challenges remain across the postal system. In particular, unclaimed mail is rising again. Earlier, weekend hours helped reduce the backlog. Those hours ran from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

However, that progress has slowed. Gomes said mail is piling up again. This issue affects the General Post Office. Consequently, staff now face growing pressure.

Furthermore, customer turnout remains low. Some people visit during weekend hours. For example, churchgoers sometimes stop by on Sundays. Even so, the numbers remain too small. As a result, incoming mail outpaces collections.

In addition, confusion about locations adds to the problem. Many customers do not know where to collect items. This happens despite outreach by postal staff. Therefore, delays continue.

Gomes stressed the main collection point remains the Lady Nugent Avenue office. It operates Monday to Thursday from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Fridays, it closes at 2 p.m. Even when staff contact customers, many fail to collect items.

Moreover, another issue persists at the former High Street site. Although operations moved, mail still sits in old boxes. Gomes urged customers to clear those boxes quickly. Otherwise, space will run out.

Finally, the department issued a strong appeal. Citizens must collect their mail promptly. Between Liberta, Lady Nugent Avenue, and High Street, storage space is under strain.
