Antigua PM Calls for US and Venezuela to Use Diplomacy

Prime-Minister-Gaston-Browne

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne urged the United States to resolve its dispute with Venezuela through diplomacy and dialogue. He stressed the need to keep the Caribbean a zone of peace. His message came during rising tensions and increased US military presence in the region.

President Trump recently deployed significant military assets near Venezuela, including the USS Gerald Forde aircraft carrier. This move followed concerns about Latin American drug cartels and regional security. The US Southern Command also received other assets like submarines and reconnaissance aircraft.

Caribbean leaders, including those in Caricom, have voiced their commitment to peace and dialogue. They have urged the US to avoid actions that could destabilize the region without prior consultation. The situation remains tense as Venezuela responded by mobilizing troops near its borders.
