Government Launches 50-Acre Land Plan for First-Time Buyers
Government has unveiled a new land programme in Antigua and Barbuda to boost homeownership.
First, officials released 50 acres in the MacPond area of All Saints. This move forms part of the Land Empowerment Programme. Moreover, it aims to help more citizens own property.
In addition, the lands were recently transferred to the Crown. They were part of the House Antigua project. Now, they are available through the Central Housing and Planning Authority.
Furthermore, the programme targets low- and middle-income earners. It especially supports first-time landowners. As a result, more people can enter the housing market.
Notably, 35 acres are ready for immediate sale. These plots are designed for residential homes. Each plot averages about 6,000 square feet.
Also, prices are set at $3 per square foot. This rate makes land more affordable. Therefore, buyers can plan with confidence.
In addition, qualified applicants can pay over ten years. Monthly payments start at about $175. Consequently, the plan reduces financial pressure.
Meanwhile, the remaining 15 acres address existing residents. These lands are already occupied. So, the government introduced special terms.
Specifically, long-term occupants will pay $1 per square foot. However, this applies only to those there over 20 years. Thus, the plan recognizes deep community ties.
At the same time, the initiative strengthens housing policy. It supports wider development goals across the country. For example, it links with new housing projects.
Moreover, the programme promotes social mobility. It also supports economic inclusion. In turn, communities can grow stronger and more stable.
Additionally, officials say the plan encourages sustainable development. It helps organize land use more effectively. Therefore, future growth becomes more structured.
Finally, the government urged citizens to apply soon. They encouraged people to act early. Above all, they stressed the value of owning land.
In conclusion, the programme opens new doors for many families. It offers affordable access to property. As a result, more citizens can build secure futures.
