Fire Service Receives EV Fire Blankets to Boost Safety

Fire

FIRE Service in Antigua and Barbuda has received specialized fire blankets to improve emergency response. Specifically, the equipment targets fires involving electric vehicles.

The Honourable Sir Molwyn Joseph, Minister of Environment, led the effort to strengthen national response capacity. As a result, the Antigua and Barbuda Fire Department now has access to EV-specific safety tools.

The Ministry of Environment facilitated the handover of the fire blankets. In addition, SalvageWire donated the equipment to support national safety efforts.

These fire blankets are large and heat-resistant. Therefore, they can quickly contain and suppress electric vehicle fires.

This delivery marks the first time EV-specific fire suppression equipment has been introduced to the Fire Service in Antigua and Barbuda. Consequently, firefighters can now respond more effectively to these incidents.

Before hands-on training began, the Sustainable Low-Emission Island Mobility (SLIM) Project hosted a technical session. During this session, fire officers received guidance on proper use and safety procedures.

The training also covered the capabilities of the fire blankets. Moreover, officers learned how to apply them safely during emergencies.

Minister Joseph stressed the need for proactive planning. He noted that electric vehicles are becoming more common across Antigua and Barbuda.

Therefore, the country must prepare for new and evolving risks linked to this technology.

He added that proper tools and training are essential for effective response. Furthermore, they help protect both lives and property.

This initiative supports climate resilience and innovation. At the same time, it strengthens national emergency systems.

Overall, the project reflects a continued commitment to safety and preparedness. As a result, Antigua and Barbuda is better equipped to manage modern fire risks.
