Youth & Education Report
Youth & Education Report
Picture 1

Introduction
The islands of Antigua and Barbuda continue to grow as a nation that is strongly devoted to
its youth, notably the education division of the government. From scholarships which are
offered by different organisations within the country, like the Rotary Club of Antigua, Halo
Foundation and the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Programme. One noticeable example of the
Prime Minister’s Scholarship Programme within the country, as quoted by the Antigua news
room, “Senator Govia revealed that 1,752 students are currently benefiting from the Prime
Minister’s Scholarship program” as of 2024, with 1,000 of those students being enrolled at the
University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands campus. Our country’s commitment to
education is clear, with other statements from our prime minister wanting to make the University
of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands campus free for nationals.
Youth Leadership, Technology & the Future of Learning
Our Country continues to form an unyielding infrastructure for the youth of our nation by
providing many opportunities that teach and train one for leadership and personal growth.
These programmes can include the National Youth Parliament, the CARICOM Youth
Ambassador Programme and other small, sometimes short-term programmes to assist
with the youth by giving them tools and helping to boost their confidence. These
programmes play an active part in shaping the country regardless of age, which helps to
prepare the next generations with the ability to take on and pursue leadership roles.
Technology, Innovation & Learning: Student Pressure and the Value of
Support Systems
Technology has innovated the learning experience for students in Antigua and Barbuda.
With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), free and upgraded laptops for students, education
has now become interactive and productive. Schools across the country are now starting to
embrace digital tools, as they help with creativity and help with the switch from more
traditional teaching styles/methods. As a former student of the Antigua Grammar School, I
can strongly claim the institution as an example of this progress, and its top-of-the-line
classes for teaching architecture-related classes such as Building Tech and technical
drawing using digital equipment such as Auto-Cad. A prime example of this usage is
another former student of the Antigua Grammar School ( Maliek Francis), who now works
in pursuing Civil Engineering at the ABCAS institution and integrates his knowledge gained
from his prior experience into what he is doing now. These improvements demonstrate
how technology is enabling students to learn in a more engaging and effective way.

Conclusion
Antigua and Barbuda offers many opportunities for its youth, mostly in education,
leadership and innovation. Scholarships are provided by many sources. Youth-based
initiatives, such as the youth parliament, prepare young people to contribute meaningfully
to their nation. While advancements in technology are taking place, like laptops being given
to students. And we cannot forget a very important player in the youths’ lives – Guidance
counsellors. They help students to overcome pressures and create a safe speaking space
1:1. This can be seen at the ABCAS institution, with students like Kymanni Edwards seeking
support. In Conclusion, no country is perfect, but we can all lean towards perfection within
the near future with small innovative steps.
