Careful you don’t end up like Antigua and Barbuda, PM Kamala warns

Careful

Careful diplomacy is essential, Prime Minister Kamala warned, as she addressed U.S. visa restrictions affecting the region.

Careful with words and actions, leaders must consider consequences, she said. Therefore, she urged restraint when speaking publicly about the United States and its leadership.

Speaking on U.S. visa access, the Prime Minister issued a clear caution. She pointed to Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica as examples. Both countries, she noted, faced visa restrictions after criticising the United States.

Accordingly, she described these measures as significant cuts to visa access. She warned that similar actions could bring similar results. As a result, she advised individuals and leaders to think strategically.

The Prime Minister said it would be hypocritical to seek entry into another country while criticising it. At the same time, she said, such behaviour undermines trust. Therefore, she stressed the importance of consistency and respect.

Moreover, she cautioned against “badmouthing” the people and leadership of the United States. She explained that public attacks can strain relations. Consequently, those strains can affect travel, cooperation, and opportunity.

Prime Minister Kamala also emphasised diplomacy as a key tool for small states. In addition, she highlighted the need to protect strategic alliances. According to her, respectful engagement brings better outcomes.

She further underlined the global role of the United States. She noted that the U.S. holds unmatched financial resources. Furthermore, she said it maintains powerful military assets.

As she explained, no other country offers comparable global protection and defence. Therefore, she urged leaders to recognise this reality. She said foreign policy decisions should reflect it.

Her remarks come amid ongoing regional discussion. Caribbean nations continue to assess U.S. visa policies. At the same time, they examine how diplomacy shapes access and mobility.

Meanwhile, concerns persist across the region. Many worry about travel limits and economic impact. However, the Prime Minister warned against confrontation.

Instead, she encouraged dialogue and mutual respect. Likewise, she urged careful language in public forums. In her view, diplomacy requires discipline.

Ultimately, her message was direct. Words carry weight. Therefore, careful conduct remains essential to safeguarding national interests and regional stability.
