16 Calypsonians Chosen for Independence event

Calypsonians

Sixteen calypsonians will compete in Antigua and Barbuda’s 44th Independence Calypso Competition. The event is a major part of the island’s culture and music scene. It will take place on October 30, 2025, at Jack Idle. Fans can expect a night filled with powerful patriotic songs and strong performances.

The finalists were chosen after a competitive elimination round. Thirty-one artists participated, but only sixteen made it through. This year’s competition marks the return of the event after a break since 2021. It shows that calypso music is coming back strong. Each calypsonian will perform an original song based on the theme, “Solid – Stable – Soaring.”

The sixteen finalists are: Vicious, Raiine, Peetron, King Fiah, King Young Destroyer, Lyrical Reds, Willie Wawa, Queen Gee Bee, Lyricks Man, Mr. Shy Guy, Faithful, De Sniper, Supa D, Bandit, Destiny, and Richie Francis. Judges will score their performances on lyrics, melody, and stage presence. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners, while all finalists receive rewards.

The competition celebrates the spirit and creativity of Antigua and Barbuda. Everyone is invited to attend on October 30 and support the Calypsonians. It promises to be a lively event that highlights the power of calypso to unite the community.
